Growing up in Seattle, WA, she loved writing beginning at age seven, learned to play the guitar at age twelve, and spent her entire twenties painting. She has been hospitalized for mental health issues three times and has suffered four major psychotic breaks, as well as many “minor” episodes. She also suffered with an eating disorder and major depression in high school. Emily LeClair Metcalf has spent her life living with schizoaffective disorder - bipolar type, since she was 17.
